South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) CEO Dr Rethabile Melamu has been appointed as a board member of the international solar power industry organisation Global Solar Council.

She will serve a two-year term of office with the council.

“The new board of directors will help support the Global Solar Council's mission to deliver cost-competitive, resilient and sustainable solar power across the world. It is an honour to have been chosen to be a part of this esteemed group of industry experts,” Melamu says.

The Global Solar Council board includes associations representing emerging and mature markets, as well as corporates from across the global solar supply chain. Board members also hail from every continent, she points out.

“I look forward to working with the board as we share best practice from our various continents and economies. This is a global mission, and we consider it a privilege to have been elected,” Melamu says.

The Global Solar Council is the voice of the world’s solar energy industry on the global stage, and is a nonprofit body based in Washington DC and representing national, regional and international associations, as well as leading solar sector corporations.
