PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed West African Resources has received a mining convention for its Sanbrado gold project from Burkina Faso’s Council of Ministers.

MD Richard Hyde on Tuesday said that the finalisation of a mining convention marked a significant milestone for the development of Sanbrado, and sets the fiscal and legal terms for the development and operation of the gold mine.

“We look forward to continuing construction and working with all stakeholders in Burkina Faso to bring Sanbrado into production by mid-2020,” Hyde said.

The $185-million Sanbrado project is currently expected to produce an average of 211 000 oz/y of gold over the first five years of operation, with production averaging 133 000 oz/y over the 11-year life-of-mine.

Construction activities are progressing well with the accommodation camp and bulk earthworks nearing completion, while plant site works were also well advanced with the erection of carbon-in-leach tanks currently under way.
