In 2019 Cova Advisory renewed their commitment to environmental sustainability and social impact through the donation of 211 trees to Food & Trees for Africa‘s (FTFA’s) Trees for All programme.

The commitment was launched with a tree planting volunteer day held at Moduopo School in Tembisa, Johannesburg. On the 20th November 2019, Cova Advisory staff joined FTFA as well as learners and teachers from Moduopo Primary school to plant 30 trees at the school. Participants had fun learning to plant trees the FTFA way, and got their hands dirty planting trees throughout the school.

“The trees planted here today are a legacy to the upcoming learners of Moduopo. They will remain as a reminder that Cova Advisory and Food & Trees for Africa planted trees for the greening and beauty of our school. Thanks so much for loving us and our community,” commented Mrs C Lephalala- environmental coordinator at Moduopo primary school.

Both fruit and indigenous shade trees were planted throughout the school to ensure the provision of fresh healthy fruit, whilst improving the school landscape and environment. “Recent studies have shown that trees and green spaces can improve learning ability in children, whilst also improving mental health,” commented Emily Jones, Trees and Carbon Manager for FTFA. “Tree planting provides many immeasurable benefits, and the ripple effects will be felt for decades.”

This donation of 211 trees will benefit 8 schools on FTFA’s waiting list – and go a long way to provide fruit and shade trees across South Africa. 211 trees will offset 77.85 tonnes of CO2e in their lifetime.

Cova Advisory have planted over 600 trees with Food & Trees for Africa since 2013. Zelda Burchell from Cova says “We are proud to be working with Food & Trees for Africa on this initiative. We have seen it makes a difference to the communities and the FTFA process ensures the trees are nurtured. This initiative also assists Cova lead by example by offsetting its own carbon footprint and being carbon neutral.”
