Rio reports fatality in the Pilbara

PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Mining major Rio Tinto has reported a fatality at its Paraburdoo mine, in the Pilbara.

A spokesperson for the company told Mining Weekly Online that the incident is being investigated by the relevant authorities, with the full cooperation of the company.

The company would give no further comment on the incident.

The Greater Paraburdoo operation has a production capacity of some 24-million tonnes a year, and includes the Paraburdoo, Channar and Eastern Ranges mines. The operation makes use of both residential and fly-in, fly-out staff.
