ARB lifts FY profit, despite flat revenue

JSE-listed ARB Holdings has maintained its revenue at R2.5-billion for the year ended June 30, while gross profit rose 8.4% year-on-year, owing to disciplined trading practices.

The company on Friday said its electrical division's revenue remained constrained as a result of the limited government infrastructure spend during the year, as well as the decline in local mining and manufacturing activities.

The division does, however, forecast an increase in spend by State-owned Eskom on electrification projects. The division will remain focused on improving the performance of its ARB Connect stores.

The lighting division was, meanwhile, adversely affected by the decline in retail sales, especially in the second half of the financial year, when the South African economy entered into a recession.

“Little change is expected in the outlook for the South African economy during our next financial year and we are focused on taking advantage of the limited opportunities which exist,” the company said in a statement.
