Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) on Wednesday announced that former Department of Home Affairs (DHA) CIO Sello Mmakau would fill the position of ACSA CIO, with the position having been created following the company’s leadership realignment earlier this year.

“Mmakau’s new role is an important one, which will ensure that the information technology strategy is ideally aligned to sustainably support the growing organisation,” ACSA CEO Bongani Maseko said, adding that Mmakau’s position plugged into ACSA’s plans to conclude the filling of positions at executive level during the current financial year.

ACSA said that, during his time at the DHA, Mmakau had been instrumental in improving the department’s back-end systems performance and had also been involved in collaborating with the banking industry to develop automated online fingerprint verification and in implementing the new South African Smart ID card.

ACSA COO Tebogo Mekgoe said Mmakau was expected to play a pivotal role in driving the future of the organisation.
