The company provides engineering and manufacturing support from advanced engineering to mass production customers – Their turbos are also first fit for over 30 international vehicle brands worldwide

IHI EMEA Turbo is one of the major players in the turbo industry with a global market share of 20% they have produced more than 50 million turbo chargers for automobiles with a scope ranging from compact cars to huge buses, trucks and earth moving machines

They design and manufactures a full range of diesel, gasoline and natural gas turbocharger products and accessories for the automotive, agricultural, industrial, marine, commercial truck and military markets. OE and first fitted for many Japanese car manufacturers, Daihatsu, Honda, Mitsubishi Motors, Mazda, Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota.  Along with a huge passenger vehicle overseas car market that includes Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Ferrari, Fiat, GAC Group, Hyundai, KIA, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen. Their Commercial vehicles OE fitted are Isuzu Hino and DU Trucks. Agricultural, Construction machinery and small boats are Kubota and the Yanmar brand.

“We are hugely excited about this new brand and together we have huge plans for Southern Africa and the surrounding countries,” said Chris Kambouris founder, owner and MD of TurboDirect SA. IHI not only produce turbochargers, but they are the only turbocharger company in the world that mass produces screw superchargers which they currently provide to marine, fuel cell and automotive internal combustion engine customers. This will give us a completely new innovative and technically advanced range of turbochargers and products for our customers.”

The Superchargers S Series ITA utilizes high efficiency screw compressor technology to provide positive displacement airflow at a preselected internal pressure ratio. This approach allows this type of supercharger to remain very compact and provide a mechanically driven pressurized air source for rapid boost response with less parasitic losses than other technologies. Other positive displacement devices simply pump a volume and rely on external compression to generate boost and require more power from the engine crankshaft.

The unique features of the screw compressor include:

1.    Higher cycle efficiency resulting in lower temperature rise of the boosted airflow.

2.    Lower input drive power for the same airflow and pressure ratio.

3.    High specific speed design provides higher airflow in a smaller more compact package.

4.    Your choice of various lubrication options including self-contained for life or externally fed oil.

5.    Multiple input drive options including damper pulley, one-way drive or electromagnetic clutch.

6.    Stand alone or fully integrated packaging with your other engine components.

7.    Several potential mounting orientations and airflow connections.

“The IHI Turbo is an original OE turbo and first fit for over 30 popular vehicle models, all of which are available in South Africa. The IHI brand is also growing their share in the passenger vehicle industry as a popular choice for many OEM brands. Their replacement Turbo’s for all these models also come at a very affordable price,” said Kambouris.

Some of the model vehicles that carry the IHI turbocharger installed onto their engines are the VW Golf7R, VW Golf7GTI, VW 1.2TSI, VW 1.4TSI, VW1.8TFSI, BMW2.0I engines, Mercedes Benz OM651 engines and various other popular vehicles on our South African roads today. These turbochargers are ultimately reliable and made from exotic materials like stainless steel and other super alloys improving the engine reliability together with reduced emissions. Further innovations incorporated onto these turbochargers include axial electronic actuators and wastegate assemblies found on the gasoline powered turbochargers above, as well as rotary electronic actuators found on the Euro5 and above Diesel engines which utilize VNT technology
