Following JSE-listed SABMiller’s consolidation of its South African and African operations into a single region earlier this year, CEO Alan Clark on Friday announced a realignment of the responsibilities of members of the group’s executive committee.

The move, which would result in corporate affairs director Catherine May’s departure from the group at month-end, was consistent with Clark's “desire to focus key responsibilities in a smaller and more effective” executive group.

CFO Jamie Wilson would now head up SAB’s investor relations activities in addition to his other financial responsibilities in what Clark believed was a “logical development” to further enhance the company’s engagement with financial stakeholders.

Corporate finance and development group director Domenic De Lorenzo would assume additional responsibility for group strategy, while general counsel and newly elected corporate affairs director John Davidson would step down from his role as company secretary and take over the regulatory affairs, communications and sustainable development activities, in addition to legal and company secretarial tasks.

“Combining legal, communications, regulatory affairs and sustainability into one integrated function under Davidson, reporting directly to me, will serve our business better in a changing legal and regulatory environment,” Clark commented.

Deputy company secretary and deputy general counsel Stephen Shapiro would step in as company secretary from November 1.
