The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has approved generation licences for five preferred bidders of the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme Bid Window (BW) 6.

The five preferred bidders’ projects include the 120 MW Doornhook solar photovoltaic (PV) project; the 150 MW Boitumelo solar PV power plant; and the 150 MW Kutlwano solar PV power plant, in the North West.

Further, URSA Energy was granted a generation licence for its 240 MW Virginia Solar Park project and Antila Energy for its 200 MW Good Hope Solar Park project – both located in the Free State.

The five preferred bidders applied for generation licences in accordance with Section 7 of the Electricity Regulation Act. Nersa determined that the bidders meet the licensing requirements and no objections to the applications were received.
