Cabinet has appointed former Eskom CE and Public Enterprises director-general Tshediso Matona as Secretary for National Planning in the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME).

The DPME, headed by Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe and Deputy Minister Buti Manamela, was responsible for the planning, monitoring and evaluation of government programmes for the improvement of service delivery.

Matona, who held the position of director-general of the Department of Public Enterprises from 2011 until 2014, stepped in as the CEO of embattled Eskom in October 2014.

However, in March, he and three other executives were subject to suspension and an inquiry, which had subsequently cleared all of any wrongdoing.

Montana, who had also worked as Department of Trade and Industry director-general until 2011, amicably departed Eskom in May.
