INCLEMENT OUTLOOK: Although Cyclone Eloise did not disrupt South Africa’s already load-shedding-prone electricity network as much as initially feared, it nevertheless left serious destruction and death in its wake. It is not the only storm warning facing Southern Africa, however. The region is confronting gale-like conditions as it seeks to secure sufficient doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to meet its mass-immunisation goals, which means that further Covid-19 swells are now predicted to follow what has been a truly devastating second wave.
