Security imagery specialist Graphic Imaging Technologies (GIT) has made a free-to-use camera placement tool available and has launched a solution that enables Internet protocol streams to be sent over older analogue coaxial cables, enabling users to use existing infrastructure to support new technology systems.

“Demand for the new technologies – including image- recognition and analytics, perimeter-breach detection, high-resolution pan-tilt-zoom cameras, as well as new high-resolution mobile camera systems – is high, but our clients also correctly note that they have to get value from their existing investments,” says GIT executive Laurence Smith.

Users of security imaging technologies, including security companies, maintenance and technical staff and industrial operations, are keen to transition to new technologies, but must leverage their existing investments effectively, he adds.

“The new camera placement tool and the solution to enable them to use new technologies on older infrastructure are aimed at enabling clients to leverage their existing systems as and when they replace their older equipment.”

Video Management Systems (VMS) can manage a range of analytical tools, and different video and security equipment, including cameras made by other manufacturers. Such systems are a key part of enabling clients to use the equipment and security technologies that they have or need, says Smith.

The latest Version 8 of the Flir Latitude VMS can control a modern security environment, including automatic equipment condition monitoring, body camera assignment and control, global positioning system (GPS) tracking, automatic download and replication, as well as manage displays and alarms.

Further, a new body-worn camera and position system, TruWitness, has also been launched, says Smith. The lightweight, high-definition camera has been designed to clip onto uniforms or spectacles so as not to obstruct the vision if a person raises his or her arms. It also has GPS, but an innovative aspect is the assignment of the camera equipment and the management of the video data.

The charging docks for the TruWitness automatically download the full resolution video data and stores it, based on the user profile, in addition to the data stored from the live video streams, which is used for real-time video analysis. Further, assignment of the devices is done using a near-field dock during check-in and check-out, which is also intuitive, quick and easy to use.
