Eskom acting chief executive Colin Matjila must reveal all the documents on a tender for the replacement of steam generators at the Koeberg power plant, the DA said on Tuesday.

"The DA calls... Matjila, to make good on his promise to provide all relevant documents leading up to and forming the basis of Eskom's decision to award the tender," Democratic Alliance MP Gordon Mackay said in a statement.

"The promise made by Matjila, on record, in the public enterprise portfolio committee meeting of September 3... was provided on the proviso that matter was not sub judice."

Mackay said because Westinghouse Electric SA had abandoned its interdict against Eskom all excuses by the power utility to stop closer scrutiny of the deal by Parliament had fallen away.

On September 5, Westinghouse abandoned its bid to stop Eskom from going into business with French company Areva NP Proprietary.

Westinghouse had taken the power utility to court to get an interdict to stop it from either signing a contract with Areva or implementing the contract if it had already signed it.

It also wanted Eskom to provide documents detailing how Areva had been awarded the R4 billion tender to replace steam generators at the Koeberg nuclear power plant.

Mackay said the DA would submit a request in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act if it did not receive the documents within five working days, and refer the matter for investigation by the public protector.

"The DA will not allow a R4-billion fraud to be committed against the South African people," he said.
