Energy Minister Jeff Radebe has emphatically denied imputations that his dismissal of the previous board of the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) was motivated by a desire for personal enrichment. These allegations were "complete balderdash" he told a media briefing held in Pretoria, on Friday.

In a press statement released on Thursday, Demcratic Alliance MP Gwen Ngwenya stated that "the Minister needs to answer whether there is a deal with a foreign company involving Necsa/NTP Radioisotopes, from which the Minister stands to financially benefit – or from which he has already benefitted. . . . [W]e urge the Minister to be transparent in his dealings."

When asked by a journalist from eNCA TV news to clearly deny the allegations, Radebe complied. "eNCA, I can tell you right now, that thing is balderdash . . . that allegation has no basis whatsoever."
