Despite the troubled times in the construction industry, construction company Concor Western Cape continues with a range of quality projects in and around Cape Town, where the company’s indelible stamp on the city is its legacy.

“Our close relationship to developers, consultants and other clients over many years ensures that we are always aware of what is happening in the market, and what the industry requires of us,” says Concor Western Cape MD Mark Fugard. “Even with conditions being depressed, we have secured work where we can deliver value with some of the finest skills and teams in the business.”

Concor recently completed the Signature Lux 1 hotel project, an 80-key establishment outside the waterfront area in an historic building whose situation precedes even the reclamation of the foreshore. However, work has now begun on the Signature Lux 2 hotel, which comprises 167 beds in the central business district.

Meanwhile, Fugard says one of the most exciting current projects the company is working on is the 16 On Bree project. “This will be the tallest residential building in the city centre and is only slightly under the height of Portside.” It will include two levels of retail and several levels of parking, and will reach 120 m high, looking onto Bree street. There will be 38 levels in total, accommodating 380 apartments of various sizes.”

He says the company is also busy with a large seven-storey home project on Nettleton Road High, on the hillside of Clifton and the Aurum development project in Bantry Bay.

The Aurum development project comprises eight Aurum Presidential Residences cascading down from Victoria road to the ocean’s edge and 15 Aurum Luxury Residences rising up the hill above the road. The Presidential Residences are scheduled for completion by month end.

Fugard notes that Roscommon House, a student housing project under way on Main road in Claremont is quite a different proposition. The project will comprise 20 000 m2, with the 582-bed building to help ease the shortage of student accommodation.

Another development under way in Claremont is the Draper, on main office block, where the facades will replicate the Cape Malay heritage of the original buildings. Above two levels of basement parking will be ground floor retail, followed by four more parking levels and four office floors.
